Mary Ellington, Principal

I am Mrs. Mary Ellington. I am so excited to be at Newport Elementary as your Principal!
I am proud to be a product of the Carteret County school system. My time with the school system began at White Oak Elementary, Broad Creek Middle, and graduated from Croatan High School in 2006. After receiving a great foundation in Carteret County I had the opportunity to attend East Carolina University where I earned my BS in Interior Design and Business in 2010 and again for my Masters of Arts in Teaching-Elementary Education in 2011. After that, I began my teaching career at White Oak Elementary as a Kindergarten teacher. While serving at WOES, I also had the opportunity to teach K-5 Visual Art and 4th Grade. While teaching I began working on my Masters in School Administration from East Carolina and graduated in 2017.
I have served as Beaufort Elementary and Bogue Sound Elementary's Assistant Principal over the last 4 years. I am passionate about public education and I have a deeply vested interest in the Carteret County Public School System. I encourage staff to treat each child’s education like you would want your child to be taught. A mentor once said, “children do not get a second chance at a grade level”. I take this to heart and try to live it out every day. Not only am I a product of this fantastic system but I now have 3 children of my own who will have the opportunity to attend as well. When I am not in the building I spend my time with my family and friends. We are often on the boat going to the beach or fishing.
